Once a week, look at 6 numbers for each post, find your winner and make one decision. That's the whole system.

A video can get lots of views because the app showed it to lots of people who scrolled right past. The numbers that matter are the ones where someone did something: sent it to a friend, saved it, followed you, commented, tapped your profile or sent you a message.
Most people look at views, feel good or bad, and change nothing. The only reason to check your numbers is to make one decision: what do I make more of next week?
Enter your email and it opens right here. So do the other 18 guides. You only do this once.
Same day every week. Friday works well. On Instagram, open a reel and tap View insights. You need a free professional account to see them (you can switch in your settings). TikTok has the same numbers under each video's analytics.
Only judge posts that are at least 3 days old. Lots of videos keep picking up views for days, so an early read can fool you.
For each post from the last 7 days, write down: shares (sends), saves, follows from that post, comments, profile visits and DMs that came from it. The table below says what each one means.
DMs are the one the app won't count for you. Two easy ways: give each video its own comment keyword, or ask everyone who messages you, "What video brought you here?"
Big posts always have more of everything, so raw counts lie. Divide by views to compare fairly.
Example: Post A got 20,000 views and 40 shares. That's 2 shares per 1,000 views. Post B got 3,000 views and 15 shares. That's 5 per 1,000. Post B is the better video. It just got shown to fewer people.
The calculator below does the math for you.
Pick the post with the best rate on the number you care about most this month: shares if you want reach, saves if you want trust, follows and DMs if you want customers. Write one line on why it worked: the hook, the topic or the format.
Then plan 2 videos like it for next week. Paste this in to get ideas:
This video did better than my others this week. Help me make more like it. The hook (first line): [FIRST LINE OF THE VIDEO] What it was about: [ONE SENTENCE] The format: [TALKING HEAD, GREEN SCREEN, WALK AND TALK, ETC.] Its best number: [SHARES, SAVES, FOLLOWS OR DMS] My audience: [WHO YOU MAKE VIDEOS FOR] 1. In 3 short bullets, tell me why it probably worked. 2. Give me 5 new video ideas that keep what worked but are not copies. For each one: the hook (under 15 words), one line on what I say, and which part I kept (the topic, the hook style or the format). Write like a real person talks. No hype words.
Example numbers are filled in. Type your own over them.
Optional: your best post last week
Fill these in to see which one wins. Leave views empty to skip.
| Number | What it means | If it's low, try this |
|---|---|---|
| Shares | People wanted someone else to see it. Your best sign a video can reach new people. | Make the hook about a problem most of your buyers have, not about you. |
| Saves | It was useful enough to come back to. | Make the tip a step they can do today, not a big idea. |
| Follows | They want more from you. | Say who you are and what you post. Tease what's next. |
| Comments | They have something to say. Read them for questions. | End with one easy question they can answer in a word. |
| Profile visits | They got curious about you. | Make sure your bio and pinned posts tell them what to do next. |
| DMs | They're ready to talk. The closest number to money. | Give a reason to message: a keyword and a free thing you'll send. |

The check is easy. Turning every winner into the next 5 videos, then writing, filming, editing and posting them while you run a business, is where most people stall.
