Hook score9/10
Specific, surprising, one idea.
Why it worksMakes you ask "wait, how?" in under 2 seconds.

Why this mattersPeople decide to stay or scroll before you finish your first sentence.

You can have a great video and still lose almost everyone, because the first line didn't give them a reason to stay. The fix isn't better filming. It's a better first sentence.

The hard part is you can't judge your own hooks. You know what comes next, so they all sound fine to you. This audit gives you an outside opinion in minutes.

1

Grab your last 10 hooks

Open your profile. For each of your last 10 videos, write down the very first thing you say or the first line of text on screen. Not the caption, the opener.

Paste them into a note, one per line.

Don't pick your best ones. Use the last 10 in a row. The point is to see your real average.

Get them graded

Open ChatGPT or Claude (the free version is fine). Paste this in, then paste your 10 hooks under it.

You are a short-form video coach. Grade each hook below from 1 to 10.

Score it on four things:
1. Would a stranger stop scrolling for it?
2. Is it specific (a real number, a real situation, a real person)?
3. Does it open a question they need answered?
4. Is it about one idea only?

My audience is: [WHO YOU MAKE VIDEOS FOR]

Give me a table: hook, score, the main problem in 5 words.
Then, for every hook under 7, write 3 better versions using different styles.
Keep every rewrite under 15 words. Write like a real person talks. No hype words.

Pick your 3 best rewrites and film them

Read the rewrites out loud. Pick the 3 that sound most like you and make you want to hear the answer. Those are your next 3 videos.

You can even re-film an old video with a new hook. Same video, new first line.

If a rewrite sounds like something you'd never say, tell it: "Rewrite these the way I talk. Shorter. Less salesy."

Cheat sheet7 hook styles that work

The mistake

Call out something they're doing wrong.

"You're losing customers before they even call you."

The opposite

Say the thing your industry won't.

"Posting more won't fix your page."

Show the result first

Open on the end, then explain how.

"This is a week of content. I filmed it in one hour."

Stop doing this

Tell them to quit one specific habit.

"Stop writing your captions last."

The question that stings

Ask something they can't ignore.

"Why does nobody who watches your videos ever buy?"

Before and after

Name the old way and the new way.

"I used to spend Sundays editing. Now I don't."

The specific number

A real number makes it believable.

"3 things I'd fix on your page in 5 minutes."

Talk to one person

Name exactly who it's for.

"If you run a cleaning business, watch this."

See the differenceWeak vs strong

Weak"Here's a tip for your business."
Strong"You're answering the same customer question every day. Film it once."
Weak"So today I want to talk about content."
Strong"Your videos aren't boring. Your first sentence is."
Weak"Let me show you my morning routine."
Strong"I post every day and I only film on Mondays. Here's how."
